The Monroe County Council of the Blind is a non profit organization based in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania.
- Promote independence
- Improve specialized services
- Change the images of the visually impaired and blind community
Just about all of the founding members of the Monroe County Council of the Blind met in a support group sponsored by a local blind service organization. Not satisfied with simply talking about the issues, we decided to be proactive about the changes we wanted to see in the community.
In January 2006, we established our by-laws and became a chapter of the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind, which is an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind. In less than one year we grew our membership from eight to over thirty. .
We have implemented programs that not only assist with those losing their sight, but also deal with the images people have of the blind.
We plan to become a major force in the community working to improve the lives of not only the visually impaired and blind, but consequently impacting the entire community.
